Geek Warning for Canberra and the ACT

News just in.

The ANU's robotics and computer vision research group has just organised to go to a pub this evening for what has been described by the organiser as "a social event". Canberra residents, particularly those in the Civic area around 5pm tonight, are warned not to try and speak or make eye contact with anyone who looks "socially awkward". Rumour has it, the pub of choice is the well known "Wig'n'Pen". The bar staff rostered on for tonight have been warned to stock up on orange juice, and in accordance with A.C.T. regulations, section off an area at the back of the pub, away from regular pub patrons. The A.C.T. first introduced the controversial "geeks off the streets" legislation in 1986, in response to the last known computer science social event to have occurred in Canberra. More updates as news comes to hand.

I say, KEEP THE GEEKS OFF THE STREETS!! As with the Bogong moth, Canberra serves as a Mecca to many of Australia's most brilliant, socially challenged minds. Why? Certainly not the vibrant Canberran nightlife. No. Both species migrate to Canberra to find a mate and die. To put it in the terms an average Canberran may relate to, Superman was a geek. Clearly, his dress sense was appalling. On Krypton basking under the red sun his strength was nothing impressive, take that same man and surround him with people of lesser strength, and suddenly you’ve got Teri Hatcher trying to get into your spandex.

Don’t get me wrong, the geek is a necessary evil. After all, without the geek there would be no ecstasy. Whaaa? I hear you all saying like Moe from the Simpsons, eccies are party drugs, what’s a geek doing at a party?? Well, ecstasy was originally created by a particularly gifted chemistry student to simulate the feeling of social interaction without ever needing to leave his parents' basement.

Canberra is indeed the nation’s geek capital, in fact measures have been taken to house the worst of the worst off the streets and away from Joe Public, namely Parliament House. While the geek act of 86 was welcome, these measures have not gone far enough. Geek numbers in Canberra have trebled and political minders are becoming overwhelmed with geeks spilling out onto the streets, trying to mingle with ordinary Australians and having a sip of beer thanks mate in an akubra hat.

This is not good enough!! I say reclaim our domain!! Put down the uprising!

KEEP THE GEEKS OFF THE STREETS!!

D. Sanchez.
