I am also hopeful for the first time in a long time that Howard can (will) be beaten.
yes, but why, after getting the man I have wanted in the Labor top job for two years, do I feel no more assured that this will happen.
Much like the English cricket team, Labor have an extraordinary way of f$^king things up with a few stupid decisions. I wait anxiously to see what Rudd does with his front bench. Labor's chances (and the success of Rudd's leadership) hinges on the quality of Labor's front bench. I'd love to see Gillard square up with Costello, and of course, Peter Garrett step up to the environment port folio. With people like this filling roles that maximise their abilities, then, and only then, will I start to believe labor have any real chance.

How about a collective round of applause? A collective feeling of elation? I truly feel for Kim, especially in light of his personal tragedy.
